HEYBOO had a quick chat with Krissy from Beauty By K, and asked her a few Q’s about life in the beauty industry. Take a look!
Tell us more about your business?
Beauty By K is a locally (Cape Town) run beauty business that offers mobile and salon-based services. I specialise in nail treatments as well as make-up and hairstyling. I am a trained and qualified Bio Sculpture Nail Technician as well as a makeup artist and hairstylist.
Why did you decide to get into the beauty industry?
Having had a passion for the beauty industry from a young age, I decided to study and start my career in the beauty industry in 2016. I am constantly finding ways to grow and further my business and haven’t looked back since.
Describe a typical day in the life of Beauty by K?
I am quite an early riser; the mornings are my absolute favourite. I will get up and make a much-needed cup of coffee, but after that the mornings can vary depending if it is a CBD or local day. I’ll either get off to a flying start to beat the town traffic or get stuck into a bit of admin before driving off to my first appointment for the day.
What sets Bio Sculpture apart from others?
Bio Sculpture is a different product to other gels and hybrid gel polishes. Bio Sculpture will not cause any damage to the natural nails. The gel is also durable. It is 100% vegan, no animal products are used and it is free of harmful chemicals. It is the healthy alternative in nail care.
Have you experienced failures? If so, what did you learn from them?
Yes, I have, in all aspects of my business, especially in the beginning. I have learnt to pick myself up, dust myself off and carry on. Do not let anything or anyone keep you from reaching your goals. Another thing is to be there for people in the industry and to support fellow female business owners. The beauty industry can be harsh and I think in this day and age we should only be pushing our sisters up.
Any advice for aspiring female business owners out there?
Put your head down and focus on your own goals. If it gets hard, and it will, stay strong and look forward to the light at the end of the tunnel. Remember, hard work brings big rewards.
