We caught up with Michelle and Anastasia, from AnaStellar Brands, who gave us more of an insight into what they do and how they started up their business.
Their innovative products focus on the nutritional requirements of women throughout the various stages of womanhood including prenatal supplementation.
In this interview, we talk about what sets their product apart from the rest and what inspires them – and their answer is a whole mood! 👏
You established AnaStellar Brands in 2016. Tell us about what prompted you to start the business and what it is you do?
Our story is one of heart. We love South Africa. There is, and continues to be, a huge brain-drain happening in South Africa. We are seeing mass emigration. There are a hundred reasons to leave if you look for them. We have given ourselves a reason to stay. To be part of the change we want to see in our country. AnaStellar Brands is a woman-owned nutraceutical company with a focus on women’s health and pregnancy. Our range has also expanded into products that men can use.
We believe you’re a nutraceutical company catering to women. What sets your products apart from others on the market?
All our products are formulated, manufactured, and packaged here in South Africa. We focus on unique mineral and vitamin combinations that work in synergy. We balance value and cost in our brands. Our woman-focused products for pregnancy and sub-fertility have been designed by a woman, for women.
When starting out and gaining traction, building a successful business can be daunting. Any advice for aspiring female business owners out there?
Take it one day at a time. There are so many things that will go wrong that will be out of your control, do not let those things derail your plan. When giving is up is not an option, you stop making excuses and find a way to overcome the challenges.
Learn to have resilience – because that will separate you from people who give up.
Covid-19 has taught us that we do not have to look too far to find inspiration. We find can find inspiration from those around us. Everyone is fighting a battle that no one else knows about. The people who inspire us, are those who never give up. No matter their circumstances. We are inspired by the doers of this world.
We also value and are inspired by female entrepreneurship.
We are going to achieve the goals we have set for our business which includes growth and increasing our product range.
Learn the rule of “the power of two days”. This rule can mean two opposite things:
- For breaking bad habits: Focus on breaking one bad habit until you have 100% successfully not attempted the habit for two consecutive days.
- For creating good habits: Never miss two consecutive days of completing a new positive habit.
“This too shall pass”. Self-motivation and happiness start with you at the centre. We all have bad days, but tomorrow is always a new start.
If you could have a meal with anyone (alive or deceased), who would you dine with and what would you ask?
Globally – Simon Sinek, he is an insightful motivational speaker and author. He is someone you stop and listen to and learn something from.
Locally – Vusi Thembekwayo, all you need to do is watch one of his videos to have your thought processes about business be challenged. A dinner date with him would be explosive.
