The Fashion Devout is a South African Fashion label. The black female-owned business that is founded and run by Siphelele Ngcobo started in 2021. The brand is an online fashion clothing brand that thrives on creating homemade high-quality garments for diverse women.
I was fortunate enough to receive one of the beautiful garments made by The Fashion Devout as well as get an know more about Siphlele and her fashion label in an inclusive interview.
How was The Fashion Devout established?
The Fashion Devout initially started off as a blog in 2018, sharing images of Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle. I’ve always had a desire to style and create clothing for women. So I started blogging and paying tribute to women in minimalist fashion styles, streetwear, retro fashion, ready to wear designer clothing and haute couture.
Blogging also served as a much-needed escape from a rather unfulfilling working environment that I was in. At the beginning of 2021, I decided it was time for me to start a new chapter in my life and create my own journey in the fashion industry using my own understanding of fashion.

As a local brand what makes your brand stand out from others?
Firstly, it was important for me to create a Black female-owned brand that would provide a great customer service experience for South African consumers. I knew that having over eight years of experience in dealing with a diverse group of clientele would be one of my most valuable attributes.
The Fashion Devout is fully a proudly South African brand. We source our fabric from textile suppliers across the country. We also source our needed day to day resources from other small local businesses in Durban. There are certain challenges that arise at times with this process, however, it is a wholesome and fulfilling experience.

Is there anything exciting that the brand is working on for the new year?
There are two other fashion-related projects that I hold dear to my heart which I plan to embark on in the future under The Fashion Devout. However, I think for now it’s important to focus, learn and grow in our current path.
Thank you Siphelele for making the time for our Q&A session. As mentioned briefly, I received a beautiful Olive skirt and top set by The Fashion Devout. Feel free to have a look at what I receive alongside some of their other designs available to purchase on Instagram. They offer a two-month layby for customers and is currently running their Black Friday sale.
